New womenswear brand JOOBI renders unique edge to fashion scene with experimental drapes

Creative luxury womenswear startup JOOBI has recently released its latest collection that comes with unusual drapes made from unique materials and unconventional techniques.

NEW YORK – September 25, 2017 – News for those looking for something out of the box in the contemporary fashion scene. A new luxury womenswear brand JOOBI has arrived with its experimental collection that introduces unusual drapes crafted from distinct materials and unorthodox techniques unheard of till date. Entitled as “The Progress of Recovery”, the collection entails an inspiring tale of rise from depression.

Based in NY City, JOOBI is the brainchild of a young promising fashion designer Joobi Lee. Originally from South Korea, Lee is an alumnus of NY’s premier Fashion Institute of Technology. Since her FIT days, she had worked for various companies but the enterprising artist always had it in her to start something of her own someday. She wanted a venture where she can give wings to her imaginations in whatever way she wishes to – and thus JOOBI was born.

JOOBI’s latest collection “The Progress of Recovery” is a part of SPRING SUMMER 2018 COLLECTION. It weaves the story of Lee’s own fight with depression while she used to work for different companies in the concrete jungle of NYC fashion district.

“I was into depression for quite some time. On one hand, the restless commercial culture of Manhattan became too overwhelming for me and on another, I was constantly trying to keep alive my dreams of having my own line someday as an artist. It was taking toll on my nerves. I used to feel I am getting squeezed in between my packed life and constantly changing thoughts of my own brand. But fortunately, I did not give up. Amidst all the challenges, I kept committed to my own venture and after continuous sessions of building and rebuilding- finally I could come up with my own collection. It represents my journey from darkness to light. I am hopeful my creative drapes would empower women to stick to their dreams and dare to be different”, stated Lee.

Joobi’s collection brings forth unusual materials with distinct textures that are not easily found in the regular fashion scene. The materials used for The Progress of Recovery have been passed through various stages of processing and layering. Lee mentioned of using a bonding material to render a unique gelatinous texture  to nylon. On the other hand, normal linen fabric has been coated, dyed and bonded with silk satin to induce an abstract paper texture.

In regards to techniques, Lee has not taken the conventional route of sewing one piece to another. Rather, her course of work has focused on connecting all parts of a single garment. She has folded a whole continuous piece to stack the layers together.

“I have taken more of an ‘origami’ approach which tailoring my drapes. I hemmed the fabric piece first and then draped and folded as I went along. Almost each of my garments has been created out of one piece of fabric.”

Joobi Lee has envisioned to create a feminine perspective out of typical synthetic materials normally used in men’s outerwear. Interestingly, unlike regular fashion lines, her latest collection of unusual drapes is not limited to young women only but also caters to matured women.

Joobi Lee is further looking forward to bring in a contemporary line from JOOBI.
